    Thu 19 Oct 2023

  • This Week

    Fri 13 Oct 2023

Maya Day - Children in Year 5 thoroughly enjoyed their history-themed day learning about the Maya civilisation on Tuesday. Bake Sale - Miss Hutson (our mental health leader) and her team raised £106.60 for MIND in the bake sale on Tuesday. Thank you to all those who supported this. Apologies if you were one of the disappointed parents when we ran out!

Egyptian Artistry - One of our children’s grandparents, Judith Wetherall, kindly came in to school during the week to talk about Egyptian art to Year 6. She brought with her a wealth of knowledge and experience as an internationally renowned conservator with expertise in gilding. The children were thrilled to be able to handle authentic materials and even gild their art work in 24 carat gold! Maddie (6F) said ‘Judith was really kind and knowledgeable. I loved using the 24 carat gold and painting with the colours Judith had made herself. My experience was amazing - thank you, Judith!’ Robert reflected that he ‘liked the experience because we got to look at and smell things we hadn’t seen before’.

  • Parking on Oakwood Road

    Fri 06 Oct 2023

We continue to request that you are considerate when parking down Oakwood and Lumley Roads. I received an email this morning from a distressed resident telling me that a parent parked over the entrance to their house, making it impossible to get in or out of their driveway. Please reflect on where you park your car and ensure that you do not park over driveways, on the zig-zag lines or in any place outside school that will make it dangerous for our children to cross the road. We are also conscious that new double yellow lines have appeared along Oakwood Road overnight. We were not aware of this - it is a County Council Highways decision. This will, of course, make parking near school more difficult, so you may need to reconsider your routines if you drop off and pick-up from the front gate. Additionally, The Highway Code addresses ‘The Driver and the Environment’. It states that drivers must not leave a parked vehicle unattended with the engine running or leave a vehicle engine running unnecessarily while the vehicle is stationary on a public road. Some families choose to arrive quite early for school and sit in their cars with the engines running; I would ask you to reconsider this please. Whilst all of these things might feel inconvenient and add some stress to your day, it is really important that we keep our children safe, park considerately and ensure that the air the children are breathing as they walk to school is clean. We can help by offering free parking permits for the car parks in town.

  • Bake Sale for MIND

    Fri 29 Sep 2023

Tuesday 10th October Miss Hutson will be running a bake sale to mark World Mental Heath Day. Proceeds will go to MIND which is a Mental Health charity we have chosen to support. On the morning of the 10th October we would really appreciate it if you could bring a donation for the bake sale to school. Please remember that we are a nut-free school! Please send your child to school with a small amount of money with which they can purchase a cake. Prices will be from 50p. Thank you for your support - I for one am very happy to eat a piece of cake to support such a great charity!

  • Harvest Creature Competition

    Fri 22 Sep 2023

As per the letter sent out earlier in the week, our harvest creature competition is back! Children can make a creature from fruit, vegetables or something that has grown naturally (such as twigs). These will need to be brought into school on Monday 25th September. There will be first, second and third prizes for each year group. We will be looking to see that children have created their creatures without too much adult help! Please make sure creatures come into school in a suitable container and are labelled with your child’s name and class. An amusing name for the creature is always a bonus!

  • School Photographer - 21st September

    Fri 15 Sep 2023

Please send your child in winter uniform (tie, white shirt, school navy V-neck jumper, grey trousers/shorts/skirt) on this day (even if your child usually has PE). Children are automatically photographed with their Yattendon siblings unless you request individual photos only (via Studybugs). Unfortunately, the photographer doesn’t have time to take both individual photos and family photos for the same children and so it is a choice of one or the other.

  • Four ways to make your life easier!

    Fri 08 Sep 2023

I highly recommend you do the following if you haven’t already:

 Add your child’s class email to your contacts whilst you have the letter with it on.

 Please add the school email (info@) and telephone number if you haven’t got it on your phone.

 Download Scopay APP to your smart phone to pay for trips and lunches (and book parent evening appointments)

 Download Studybugs (as on previous page) if you haven’t already done this.

 Go to our website and click on ‘subscribe’ in the calendar section. All the school dates will be accessible from your phone.

 Keep reading the Friday Flyer! It will help you stay in touch with the busy life of the school!

  • Opening Evening

    Fri 14 Jul 2023

Monday 17th July (for parents, carers and other family members) You were sent a letter about this on Studybugs early in the week. Please do come along between 6:00pm and 7:00pm to look at your child’s work and see their new classroom (if they are currently in Years 3 to 5). There is an earlier concert for children learning instruments and our Pop Choir between 5:00pm and 6:00pm. All parents and carers are welcome to this too. Between 4:00pm and 5:00pm, you may visit your child’s class if you need to discuss their report with class teachers. FoY will kindly be providing refreshments from 6:00pm to 7:00pm

  • Visit to Brooklands School—Diversity Week

    Fri 07 Jul 2023

Yesterday 4M visited Brooklands school in Reigate, a specialist provision, as part of a month of celebrating diversity. During the visit children from 4M worked in groups with the children from Brooklands. They planted seeds, designed t-shirts with paint, visited the soft play area and the school's amazing new outdoor trim trial. They are all still buzzing with excitement from the experience. Here are some of the comments made by the children:

" I had a great time at Brooklands school, the school staff and children were soooooooo nice and kind. I really enjoyed the visit and all of the activities!"

" We visited Brooklands school, which is a special school and different to ours. The children there had different needs and disabilities. By the end of our visit I did not feel like we were so different."

" I loved this school as there was so much creativity. My favourite one was painting and designing our own t-shirt. It was good to make new friends and play with them."

" I had such an amazing time and I learned that the children at Brooklands school, their brains work a little differently to mine."

"The school was so colourful and it was so much fun meeting the children that go there. I learned a lot about diversity and how we are all different not just children at special schools."
