Happy New Year! We hope you all enjoyed the Christmas break and feel refreshed ready for a new year! The children have returned with positive attitudes towards their learning and have impressed us with their maturity. It's hard to believe they have only been at Yattendon for one term!
The Year 3 Team are:
3B - Miss Butler
3P - Miss Pirt/ Mrs Fernandez
3R - Miss Riddell
Other adults that are working in Year 3 are: Miss Sultan, Mrs Green, Mrs Ruffle, Mrs Langridge, Mrs Zughaid, Mrs Pearce and Mrs Lawrence (reading recovery teacher).
This term we will be doing another exciting Science topic; Good to Grow!
In Spring 1, the children will be learning about our bodies and how to stay healthy, including making a healthy pasta salad before half term (dates to follow). In Spring 2, the children will be looking at plant growth. During this topic we will take the children on an exciting trip to Wakehurst Place; this will be on Thursday 8th March 2018 (details will be provided in due course).
In English, we are exploring the story of 'The Cobbler of Krakow and Smok the Dragon of Wawel'. The children have already wowed us with their enthusiasm towards this unit of work and we can't wait to see what they will produce! Feel free to ask them to retell this story with the actions we have been learning in class.
In Maths, we are focusing on addition and subtraction. We will be introducing the children to various mental strategies and written methods they can use to help them solve these calculations.
Please continue to encourage your child to practise their timestables and number bonds to 10, 20, 50 and 100 as this knowledge is extremely beneficial for this unit.
PE and games will take place on the following days:
3P and 3B - Mondays and Wednesdays
3R - Wednesdays
Please note that these days may change at short notice so children should have a full (named) PE kit in school at all times. Thank you.
Don't forget that our doors are always open so please feel free to pop in if you have any questions or queries at the start or end of the day. We will continue to take the children out to be collected at the end of the day so you can always catch us for a quick chat there.
