We are very lucky to have a dedicated Home School Link Worker (HSLW) at our school. Miss Burgess supports all our children and families and is available at any time if you or your child need any support. If your child comes home and talks about the Worry Buster—that’s her too! One of the things Miss Burgess has been working on this year is identifying children in our school community who are Young Carers and referring them to Surrey Young Carers to access the support they deserve and need. This week we were visited by Claire Gavin from Surrey Young Carers, who has confirmed that Yattendon School has evidenced their support for young carers who attend the school. The Angel Award aims to encourage and recognise all the great work that schools do in identifying and supporting their young carers. Schools achieving the Angel Award will be recognised by pupils, families and professionals as a young carer friendly environment. This creates a culture of acceptance, understanding and support for its vulnerable pupils. I am pleased to say Yattendon School will therefore be awarded the Surrey Young Carers Angel Award. A full presentation of the award will take place next Friday 1st July, so pictures will follow.

Next week we will sadly be saying farewell to Jen Pearson-Young who runs our forest school provision. Jen is embarking on a new venture and will be sadly missed. Of course we wish her well and hope she will come back and see us soon. We are looking to appoint a new forest school leader in due course.

Year 6: We are delighted that year 6 will be enjoying a very different experience next week. Some are off on a five day residential to an activity centre and some are enjoying more local day trips throughout the week. We hope they thoroughly enjoy themselves!

Mufti Day: Please don’t forget that Friday 24th June will be a mufti day in exchange for summer fair donations. FoY will be collecting donations of sweets and toys. This will be the first of three donation days. Thank you for your support.

Next week (week beginning June 13th), is Science Week at Yattendon School. The children will be taking part in lots of hands-on activities and investigations throughout the week and we will be launching our first ever Annual Science Snaps Competition. Children will be asked to submit their own photograph representing a scientific theme. There will be a prize for the winning entry in each class and the overall winner will have their photograph enlarged and displayed in the library (to be added to in subsequent years). We hope that this will be the start of a stunning collection of our own Super Science Snappers. The theme will be announced in school during science week and the competition will close at the end of June. More details in next week's Friday Flyer...!
