  • Science Week

    Fri 16 Jun 2023

This week, all year groups at Yattendon have been highlighting their science learning. In addition to carrying out investigations that would normally be included in our curriculum, we have also had some special visitors. Year 6 and Year 4 had visitors from SATRO with Year 6 learning how to code mini lunar buggies and year 4 learning how to use quadrats to carry out scientific fieldwork. Year 4 also learned the difference between artisitic drawings and scientific drawings. Year 6 pupils said that they had great fun coding the buggies because you could be really creative and then watch the results. Year 5 were visited by Kingston University’s ‘Lab in a Lorry’, an outreach programme that aims to help pupils develop their understanding of forces. With Year 3 visiting Wakehurst Place to learn more about plants, every year group has had something to help them celebrate our science week. Don’t forget, you still have time to send in your pictures for the Science Snaps competition!

  • Young Carers’ Skittle Event

    Fri 09 Jun 2023

On Thursday afternoon Miss Burgess (HSLW) and Mrs Webb took a group of 8 Young Carers to a skittles event held at Horley Cricket Club that was organised by the Horley Lions. Young Carers are anyone under the age of 18 who provide help and support for someone with a long term physical disability, mental health condition or problem with alcohol or drugs. Young carers very often provide emotional support as well and can feel lonely. Such events are a wonderful way for our Young Carers to meet children from other schools who are in similar situations. The children had a fantastic time paired up with children from four other Horley schools; an ice cream van visited and they took a small packet of sweets home with them – Skittles, of course!
