Youth

Horley Youth Council

The Horley Youth Council was established several years ago and its aim is to bring together local young people who want to make a difference in their community. In that time it has gone from strength to strength, with a few highlights along the way, like bringing an Ice rink to the centre of Horley for Valentines Day (Feb ’07) or the Fusion music event which saw local young bands sharing the stage with chart topping Newton Faulkner (Aug ’07) We organised a Foam Party (Aug ’08) and have together developed our team building skills at Avon Tyrell (Feb ’08) and in Paris (Jul ’09). The Council plans, organises and executes these projects with a multitude of local support.

The Youth Council has changed in recent months to become part of a task group. This group of local young people and service users are involved in all the decisions regarding the new ‘Horley Young People’s Centre’ being built in Horley Town Centre on Old Albert Rd, due to open Easter ‘10. Their responsibilities range from choosing the décor and planning the grand opening to the services that will be available as well as the type and timetable of all activities that will take place within.

All local young people who are interested in joining this task group are welcome; please contact the Neighbourhood Youth Worker, details below.

The Youth Council is supported by SCC YDS Neighbourhood Youth Worker, Grainne Casey: txt or call 07968834697 for more info.
