Mental Health in Schools

I wrote to you towards the end of last year about the importance of an open discussion on the subject of mental health. As we have ‘healthy school’ status we have traditionally placed great importance on physical exercise and healthy eating. Nationally, mental health now has a much higher profile and schools are now encouraged to raise awareness of this aspect of health too. To this end, we are hosting the ‘RAISE Team’ in school next week. They are a group of healthcare professionals who will be talking to the children in Year 5 and 6 about healthy lifestyles from the point of view of mental health, dispelling some of the myths and stigmas that exist. We hope that the children find it interesting and useful. This is a sensitive subject, so if you have any questions or concerns about these sessions, please make sure you let your class teacher know or contact Stella Coulson via the school’s email address (info@yattendon.surrey.sch.uk)
