Yattendon School Council
Our Yattendon School Council is made up of elected class representatives who meet regularly to discuss and propose ideas, and take forward initiatives and projects on behalf of their peers. We are very proud of our School Council as it enables the children of Yattendon to
- Enjoy and feel empowered by their education
- Feel that their school responds to their needs and views
- Have the opportunity and let the adults know their feelings and opinions about things that affect them
- Develop life skills through participation
- Have a say about decisions, and to play an active role in making their school a better place
Yattendon School Council has improved the playground area by deciding to implement a Trim Trail and Climbing Wall. They have also successfully run and managed a School Stationery Shop.
Yattendon’s Eco Representatives
At Yattendon we feel it is important to develop eco-awareness. We have an Eco Group with class representatives across the school. We strive to be eco-friendly through reducing, reusing and recycling. We have cultivated our own vegetable garden and enjoy the seasonal produce in our school lunches! We are proud to be a BikeIt School and our participation in The Golden Boot Challenged also raised awareness of ‘green’ ways of travelling to school. Yattendon’s Buddy System and Working With Others
The Buddy System begins from the Key Stage 1-2 Transition work with our Infant Feeder Schools. The Year 3 children show support and encouragement to the visiting Year 2 children when we pair up to read books together, share and evaluate projects and sometimes act as coaches with spelling and word games. Buddies support children in their first few weeks, helping them at lunchtime in the dining hall and in the playground until they feel confident in their new surroundings. Buddies are developed throughout the school too using internal transition link opportunities. We also use our ‘Working With Others’ approach in school to foster positive collaborative relationships throughout the school. Find out more about WWO on our Community Page.
